Panic Attack Support, Help When You are Troubled    
 

There are a number of ways to receive the support necessary to halt panic attacks from occurring. This is especially true if you're going to be away from home and suspect or dread the onslaught of panic attacks. You need to support yourself by taking things along that will comfort and ease an oncoming attack. Take a duffel bag and fill it with a few of your favorite things. Put some thought into the types of things that make you feel more relaxed and at ease. A few items that help prevent panic attacks are: flashcards that contain instructions for relaxing and breathing, aromatherapy kit (lavender works wonders, it has a calming effect), lotion (massaging the hands is soothing), CD's and CD player, meditation or CD's specified for relaxing, and tea.

Also, take things to entertain yourself such as: crossword puzzles, reading material, a diary to write your feelings in, toys, crayons and coloring books, or perhaps a handheld game. Take pictures of your loved ones and maybe even a stuffed animal or blank that will remind you of comfort and love. Don't forget to have the numbers of family or friends handy in case you need someone to talk you through an impending attack.

In addition, there are several online support groups that exist just to walk you through attacks. They offer a compassionate community of people that know the pain of panic. Most have articles, posting forums, knowledgeable site leaders. The sites often give symptoms give descriptions of the symptoms and types of disorders that cause panic attacks.

Avoiding caffeine and in extreme cases medication can help end panic attacks. It's important to consult a physician if you feel the attacks are happening on a weekly basis. Medication may be the key to freeing you from the torment of panic attacks.
