Panic Attack Relief, Banishing Your Fears    
 

With more of the population suffering panic attacks, relief is of the utmost importance to end this evil. Panic attacks hit about one in ten Americans throughout their lifetime. Some may suffer them infrequently, while others suffer panic on a regular basis.

Focus on what you are presently doing. Don't obsess about what will happen in the future since that can cause fear of the unknown. Sometimes it's best just to be honest with yourself and not beat yourself up about an attack. By accepting the reality that you are experiencing panic, you free yourself from the anxiety of it.

Facing your fears by naming them or jotting them onto paper allows you to face them down. In addition, construct a list of things that bring you inner peace or have a calming effect. Read the positive, calming list when you feel an attack coming on.

Calm, soothing breaths are the key to taming the attack. Inhale from your nose and exhale through your mouth. Also, closing your eyes and concentrating on only your breathing will add additional calm.

Believe in yourself, that is one of the essentials in relief from attacks. Since the mind is what causes panic, taking control of your thought patterns is necessary. Try to replace negative thoughts of not being able to control your life and situation with thoughts of empowerment, "I'm going to make it," "I'm not going to die from this,"
and "I have a bright future ahead of me." This will establish a sense of empowerment and put you in the driver's seat of the panic attack.

As a final line of defense against panic attacks, consult your physician. Perhaps medication and/or vitamin supplements may alleviate the symptoms causing the attacks. Also, a counselor or psychologist may be able to talk you through your fears. Having a listening ear may help you delve into the root causes of the panic attacks.
